Volkswagen brand sales fell 6.7 percent in January to 23,074 despite a sharp increase from the Jetta and an overall rise in passenger car deliveries. Meanwhile, Audi sales slipped 1.8 percent to 14,253, despite more than doubling sales of its largest sedans.

Brands: Volkswagen down 6.7%; Audi down 1.8%

Notable nameplates: Volkswagen Jetta up 52%, Tiguan up 4.9%, Atlas down 12%, Golf family down 50%; Audi Q5 up 6%, Q7 down 28%, A6 up 152%

Incentives: $3,784 per vehicle, up 2.6% from a year earlier, ALG says.

Average transaction price: $36,858, up 2.6% from a year earlier, according to ALG.

Did you know? U.S. sales of the new Q8 totaled 807 in January, while sales of the Q7, upon which it is based, fell by 816 units. Passenger car deliveries grew at Volkswagen for the second consecutive month.
