American Honda Automobile Division boosted U.S. sales for both Honda brand and Acura in March, largely driven by increases in the HR-V, Ridgeline and Accord for Honda and the ILX and RDX for Acura.
The sales led to an overall 4.3 percent gain last month.
Honda car and truck sales reached a March record, with cars up 5.3 percent and trucks up 2.9 percent. Civic sales, which rose 3.3 percent, also set a March record of 33,653 units.
Acura sales rose for the eighth straight month, and the Acura RDX crossover hit a monthly sales record of 5,835, increasing 32.7 percent from February.

Quote: "While some competitors are using fleet sales to boost their numbers in this relatively flat market, our gains across the board are driven by retail customers buying our products one at a time," Henio Arcangeli Jr., senior vice president of the American Honda Automobile Division, said in a statement.
Michelle Krebs, executive analyst at Autotrader, said Honda's sales gain is "particularly impressive since Honda does not focus on fleet sales and is always restrained in incentives. In addition, sport-utility sales were up, as were cars. Honda has been adamant it will stay strong in the car market while others -- notably General Motors and Ford -- drop out."
Did you know? The Acura MDX crossover is heading toward its eighth straight year of sales of 50,000 units or more. Acura sold 3,982 MDX models in March.
