LOS ANGELES — Combined U.S. car and light-truck sales at Korean corporate siblings Hyundai, Kia and Genesis rose 11 percent in September and 0.9 percent for the third quarter.

Kia posted its best retail sales for any September since entering the U.S. in 1994 as well as its best retail quarterly sales performance ever, the company said.

Hyundai also posted strong retail volume last month and in the third quarter, offsetting fleet sales that fell by 67 percent in September and represented just 5 percent of total volume.

Genesis, which has an all-car lineup until its first crossover goes on sale in the fourth quarter, posted lower volume in September and for the third quarter.

Brands: Hyundai, up 5% in September, down 1.3% in Q3; Kia, up 24% in September, up 3.9% in Q3; Genesis, down 28% in September, down 24% in Q3

Notable nameplates: Hyundai Elantra, down 44% in September; Palisade, up 121%; Kia Optima (now K5), down 20%; Sportage, up 4.4%; Genesis G70, up 3.2%; G80, down 70%

Incentives: Hyundai, $2,361 per vehicle in September, down 14% from a year earlier; Kia, $3,009 per vehicle, down 15% from a year earlier, ALG says.

Average transaction price: Hyundai, $28,742 per vehicle in September, up 12% from a year earlier; Kia, $27,050 per vehicle, up 4.9% from a year earlier, according to ALG.
